Licensed Forensic Engineer | Expert Witness

A specialist engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a licensed engineer to support complex investigations involving buildings, structures and construction-related disputes. Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out site inspections and accurately document physical conditions and evidence.
  • Analyse drawings, calculations, specifications, building codes and construction records.
  • Evaluate structural systems, materials, design decisions and workmanship.
  • Establish the likely cause and development of failures, defects or reported damage.
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports that clearly explain your findings and professional opinions.
  • Develop supporting calculations, photographs, diagrams and technical evidence.
  • Advise solicitors, insurers, property owners, contractors and other stakeholders on engineering matters.
  • Communicate complex technical information in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Support cases progressing through negotiation, mediation, arbitration or litigation.
  • Provide deposition or courtroom testimony when required.
  • Manage multiple investigations while maintaining accuracy, objectivity and professional integrity.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Architectural Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer licence.
  • Experience within structural engineering, building consulting, forensic engineering, construction defects or failure investigation.
  • Strong knowledge of building structures, materials, construction methods and relevant codes.
  • Confident conducting field inspections and assessing existing building conditions.
  • Ability to review complex information and form balanced, evidence-led technical opinions.
  • Strong written communication skills, particularly when preparing technical reports.
  • Comfortable presenting findings to both engineering and non-technical audiences.
  • Highly organised, commercially aware and able to manage sensitive assignments professionally.
  • Previous expert witness, deposition or litigation-support experience would be beneficial, but is not essential for an engineer with the right technical foundation.

Why Apply?

  • Build a long-term career within a specialist and intellectually challenging area of engineering.
  • Work on varied assignments where your findings can directly influence the resolution of significant disputes.
  • Develop valuable expertise across forensic investigation, causation analysis and expert reporting.
  • Gain exposure to legal, insurance and construction professionals.
  • Receive support in developing your capabilities as an expert witness.
  • Combine office-based analysis with site inspections and client-facing work.

All applications and initial conversations will be handled in complete confidence.
