We are hiring on behalf of our client, a leading Australian forestry company, for the position of General Manager to be based in Angola. This is a unique opportunity to lead complex and impactful forestry projects in a dynamic environment, with a strong focus on sustainability, stakeholder engagement, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of forestry projects, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, timelines, and budgets.
- Manage relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including local communities, government authorities, and international partners.
- Oversee and support a multidisciplinary team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Ensure compliance with local and international environmental, health, and safety standards.
- Provide regular reporting and insights to the Australian head office and other key stakeholders.
- Navigate the operational and regulatory landscape in Angola to ensure smooth project execution.
Candidate Profile
- Proven experience in project management within the forestry, agriculture, or natural resources sectors.
- Strong stakeholder management capabilities, especially in cross-cultural and complex environments.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing diverse teams in remote or developing regions.
- Fluency in Portuguese is essential; strong English communication skills are also required.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Forestry, Environmental Science, Project Management, or related disciplines.
- Willingness to be based in Angola full-time, with occasional travel to Australia or other locations.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa or similar regions.
- Familiarity with sustainable forestry practices and certification standards (e.g., FSC, PEFC).
- Understanding of Australian corporate governance and reporting frameworks.
