A leading environmental consulting and engineering firm is seeking a Groundwater Modeler to join its Environmental Informatics and Hydrogeology team. This role supports contaminated site investigations, groundwater assessments, and environmental data management across a wide range of projects. Based in Texas, the position collaborates closely with hydrogeologists, engineers, and technical specialists nationwide.
Position Overview
The Groundwater Modeler is responsible for maintaining and administering environmental analytical databases while applying advanced groundwater modeling techniques to support complex environmental projects. This role plays a central part in developing, refining, and interpreting groundwater flow and contaminant transport models used for decision-making across multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration
- Manage and optimize environmental databases and related tools.
- Create and maintain procedures for data entry, validation, and quality assurance.
- Gather and organize datasets from field measurements, monitoring networks, and remote sensing.
- Process, transform, and analyze environmental data to support technical evaluations.
- Integrate datasets with cross-functional project teams and contribute to innovative data‑management solutions.
Groundwater Modeling
- Develop, calibrate, and validate groundwater models using tools such as MODFLOW, FEFLOW, and interfaces like Groundwater Vistas, Model Muse, or Visual MODFLOW.
- Conduct scenario analyses evaluating groundwater flow, quantity, quality, and interactions with surface water.
- Interpret model results and provide technical recommendations to hydrogeologists and project managers.
- Stay current with emerging modeling technologies, methodologies, and best practices.
Skills & Requirements
- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in hydrogeology, environmental engineering, geosciences, or a related discipline.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets.
- Proficiency in groundwater modeling tools (e.g., MODFLOW, FEFLOW).
- Experience with GIS (ArcGIS Pro, QGIS).
- Familiarity with field data collection tools or web‑based mapping applications is a plus.
- Programming experience (Python, MATLAB, or R) for data processing and model development.
- Experience in database administration and SQL; exposure to EQuIS is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and work independently.
- Knowledge of statistics and uncertainty analysis methodologies.
- Prior experience in groundwater modeling, research, or environmental database management preferred.
- Coursework or project experience involving AI or machine learning is beneficial.
