Senior Transportation Engineer (PE)
Location: Vienna, VA | Richmond, VA | Virginia Beach, VA | Remote/Hybrid Options Available

A nationally recognized engineering firm is seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer (PE) to lead and contribute to complex transportation infrastructure projects. This role involves technical leadership, project management, and collaboration across disciplines to deliver high-quality solutions for public and private sector clients.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead design efforts for transportation infrastructure including highways, interchanges, urban roadways, grading, drainage systems, and erosion control.
  • Supervise and mentor engineering staff, ensuring quality and consistency across deliverables.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate transportation design with other project components.
  • Manage contract documents, budgets, and schedules.
  • Provide technical support during bidding and construction phases, including field visits and contractor coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality standards and client expectations.
  • Support client engagement and contribute to business development efforts.
  • Participate in presentations to stakeholders and public agencies.
  • Contribute to staff development through mentoring and training.

Project Responsibilities:

  • Serve as discipline lead or design manager on assigned projects.
  • Develop design methodologies and production strategies.
  • Prepare complete and compliant drawings and specifications for all project phases.
  • Review calculations, drawings, and specifications produced by team members.
  • Assist in proposal development, including scope, fee, and schedule.
  • Lead discipline-specific QA/QC reviews and construction administration activities.
  • Monitor project budgets and timelines to ensure successful delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in transportation engineering, including leadership roles.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one U.S. state, with eligibility for reciprocity.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead client and team interactions.
  • Experience with roadway design, stormwater management, and site development.

Preferred Experience:

  • Design-build project experience.
  • Familiarity with large-scale transportation projects.
  • Experience with federal, municipal, or military infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in engineering design and production software.
  • Involvement in professional development and mentoring of junior staff.
