Lead Transmission Line Engineer
A professional services firm is seeking a Lead Transmission Engineer to join their electric transmission design team. The successful candidate will lead teams designing a variety of projects, ranging from small quick-turnaround efforts to large, complex transmission lines. This position offers an opportunity to apply leadership experience and technical knowledge to ensure successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead technical staff in preparing utility engineering designs, cost estimates, and customer billing.
Manage engineering aspects of multiple transmission projects (34.5kV to 500kV).
Assist with project scheduling and staffing of technical teams.
Mentor and support the development of technical staff by teaching engineering principles and relevant safety codes.
Train staff on the use of software, tools, and company equipment.
Guide and ensure professional communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
Oversee internal and external design reviews before submission.
Work with department managers to develop and implement engineering policies and best practices.
Collaborate with other departments on cross-functional initiatives.
Maintain and foster strong relationships with current clients while identifying new business opportunities.
Additional Role Expectations:
As a Lead Engineer, you will:
Provide guidance to junior engineers in applying standards such as NESC, NEC, ASCE.
Review engineering plans, specifications, material lists, and construction documents.
Serve as a liaison between the T&D Engineering group and other departments including planning, permitting, and construction management.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
5+ years of experience in power transmission design.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage engineering teams effectively.
Advanced understanding of overhead and underground transmission systems.
Familiarity with industry standards including NESC, ASCE, and IEEE.
Proficiency with engineering software such as PLS-CADD, MFAD, AutoCAD.
Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
