Manager of Automation Group

We are looking for an experienced Group Manager to oversee teams specialising in Networking & Systems Integration (NSI), Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E), and Control Panel Fabrication. In this role, you will guide a diverse group of technical professionals who deliver essential safety, automation, and control solutions across large industrial environments.

You'll lead engineers, designers, technicians, and discipline leads, helping shape team culture, coaching emerging leaders, and ensuring that project work meets strong technical and quality standards. You will also support proposal development, provide technical oversight, and work closely with project and operational leadership to ensure the teams are prepared and aligned for successful delivery.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & People Development

  • Mentor and support discipline leads, team leads, and technical staff.
  • Provide structured development plans and ongoing feedback to drive professional growth.
  • Promote an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing team environment.

Technical Stewardship

  • Act as senior technical reviewer for proposals within your disciplines.
  • Offer guidance on complex engineering issues across NSI, I&E, and fabrication activities.
  • Strengthen and maintain engineering standards, methods, and best practices.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with project and operations leadership to align resources and resolve challenges.
  • Ensure teams are prepared to meet future project demands and strategic needs.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Support consistent application of technical standards and disciplined project execution.
  • Use lessons learned and quality feedback to improve processes and reduce rework.
  • Encourage an environment where learning and improvement are embedded in everyday work.

Project & Technical Support

  • Provide oversight and review of project deliverables.
  • Participate in early project scoping and contribute hands‑on expertise when needed.
  • Assist with estimating, scope development, and opportunity reviews.

Technical Areas Managed

Networking & Systems Integration (NSI)

  • PLC/DCS programming, configuration, and HMI/SCADA development.
  • System testing (FAT/SAT), troubleshooting, and commissioning support.
  • Compliance with relevant safety, networking, and automation standards.

Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E)

  • Creation of detailed electrical and instrumentation design packages.
  • Coordination of I/O assignments, CAD standards, and constructability reviews.
  • Ensuring compliance with NEC, ISA, UL 508A, and other applicable standards.

Fabrication

  • Panel wiring, assembly, and build activities aligned with approved designs and BOMs.
  • Hardware testing, FAT support, and consistent workmanship quality.
  • Adherence to electrical safety procedures and maintenance of an organized, compliant workshop.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, or similar field).
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience, ideally in automation, controls, electrical, or instrumentation.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience-people leadership or technical team leadership.
  • Expertise in at least one of the core disciplines (NSI or I&E).
  • Strong communication, coaching, and decision‑making abilities.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for developing people and building team capability.

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer (PE) licence.
  • Applicable industry certifications (e.g., ISA, CAP, CCST, TÜV).
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams or discipline leads.
  • Background in proposal development and client‑facing technical discussions.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies or quality systems.
