Role Overview

Our client is seeking a Managing Principal to lead their Sacramento office.

This individual will oversee the overall growth, performance, and profitability of the office while serving as a leader both internally and throughout the Sacramento business community. The role combines operational leadership, client relationship management, business development, staff mentorship, and strategic planning.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to influence major business decisions, strengthen existing client partnerships, expand market presence, and help drive the continued success of one of the region's most established engineering and planning organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall growth, operations, and profitability of the Sacramento office.
  • Develop and execute strategic business plans to support office expansion and market growth.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships throughout the Greater Sacramento region.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities across land development and related markets.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development for technical and management staff.
  • Oversee project delivery and ensure exceptional client service.
  • Partner with senior leadership to support company-wide initiatives and long-term goals.
  • Represent the firm within industry organizations, professional associations, and community groups.
  • Foster collaboration across multiple offices and disciplines throughout the organization.
  • Support recruiting, retention, and succession planning efforts.
  • Maintain a strong presence within the local business and development community.

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Master's Degree in City/Regional Planning.
  • California Professional Engineer (P.E.) License or AICP Certification.
  • 10+ years of experience managing projects, teams, and client relationships.
  • Demonstrated success developing business throughout the Greater Sacramento region.
  • Strong background in Civil Engineering, Land Development, or Land Use Planning.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and drive organizational growth.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
  • Experience building long-term client relationships and securing new business opportunities.
  • Active involvement in professional organizations and industry leadership groups preferred.
