Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team in Wilmington, NC. This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong background in HVAC and plumbing systems design, particularly within the institutional and educational sectors. The ideal candidate will hold either an EIT certification or be a licensed PE, and will be passionate about delivering high-quality, sustainable design solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems for K-12 schools, higher education facilities, and other institutional buildings.
  • Prepare construction documents including drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Perform load calculations, equipment selection, and energy modeling.
  • Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and other disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Conduct site visits and field investigations to support design and construction phases.
  • Assist in client meetings and presentations.
  • Stay current with applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • EIT certification required; PE license preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on institutional/educational projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC design software (e.g., Trane Trace, HAP).
  • Strong understanding of building codes and ASHRAE standards.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Preferred Skills

  • LEED accreditation or experience with sustainable design practices.
  • Familiarity with BIM workflows and coordination.
  • Experience working with public sector clients or school districts.
