Mountain Region Ecology/Wetland Specialist

About the Role
Our client is seeking a Senior Ecology/Wetland Professional to join our growing environmental team. This is a "plug‑and‑play" role for an experienced scientist who can independently manage wetland and stream assessments, permitting, mitigation projects, and client relationships.
You'll support nationwide due-diligence and permitting projects, primarily for a major developer client portfolio, with work spanning apartment developments, land acquisition assessments, and other large-scale site evaluations.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys fieldwork and travel, has strong technical wetland knowledge, and thrives in a fast-moving consulting environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead wetland delineations, stream assessments, and mitigation planning across multiple states.
- Prepare and manage Section 404 permitting with USACE and state agencies (e.g., TDEC and similar regional entities).
- Support and oversee wetland and stream mitigation projects from fieldwork to reporting.
- Conduct ecological due diligence for land development, including desktop reviews and site investigations.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, deliverables, and junior staff as needed.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal teams.
- Leverage existing client relationships where possible to support business development.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional experience in ecology, wetlands, natural resources, or related field.
- Extensive experience with wetland delineations following USACE standards.
- Strong background in 404 permitting and coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and state environmental agencies.
- Experience with wetland/stream mitigation planning and implementation.
- Exposure to asbestos-related projects is a plus.
- PWS certification is preferred.
- Strong project management skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel ~50% nationwide.
- Excellent communication and client-facing abilities.
