A long‑established engineering services provider is seeking a remote, part‑time Plan Check Engineer based in Florida. The organization specializes in municipal and infrastructure services across building safety, public works, public financing, planning, and construction management. Their Building & Safety team maintains current certifications and undergoes regular training to stay aligned with evolving industry standards and technologies.
This role is fully remote, candidates can be based anywhere with the condition of holding an active Florida PE.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The role involves examining building and structural plans for completeness and conformity with all applicable codes across construction segments (architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, energy conservation regulations (Title 24), Green Building Standards, and accessibility/egress requirements).
- Coordinate plan reviews with relevant public agencies and identify required corrections or modifications.
- When applicable, authorize building permits for code‑compliant plans and calculate associated fees.
- Provide guidance to engineers, architects, contractors, builders, and the public on building regulations, state laws, and local ordinances.
- Submit reports to jurisdictional Building Officials regarding workload, process statistics, new products, unique situations, and code interpretation issues.
- Assist at jurisdictional building counters when needed, answering questions related to plans and permitting requirements.
Job Requirements / Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (or related field).
- Florida PE license required (must be obtained as a condition of hire).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in construction building plan review, building safety, code compliance, or equivalent training/experience.
- Strong knowledge of building codes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
