Our client is a respected employee-owned engineering and environmental consulting firm with a strong reputation for delivering complex land development and infrastructure projects across the Southeast. They are seeking an experienced Civil Engineering Principal to lead project teams, mentor staff, and help drive the continued growth of their Charlotte-area operation.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage land development projects from proposal through construction
- Oversee project scope, schedules, budgets, and overall client satisfaction
- Direct the design and review of site layouts, grading plans, utility systems, stormwater management facilities, and erosion control measures
- Prepare and oversee technical reports, permit applications, specifications, and cost estimates
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control reviews of project deliverables
- Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams
- Mentor and develop engineers and technical staff, supporting professional growth and career progression
- Support business development initiatives, client retention, and pursuit opportunities
- Contribute to strategic planning and office growth efforts
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- 15+ years of experience in civil engineering with a focus on land development, site design, or related infrastructure projects
- Strong project management experience with responsibility for budgets, schedules, and client relationships
- Experience managing large and complex projects with significant annual fee volumes
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Strong understanding of grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility design, and permitting processes
- Experience coordinating with local and state regulatory agencies
- Proven ability to lead project teams and mentor technical staff
Preferred Experience
- Experience with stormwater modeling software such as HydroCAD or HEC-RAS
- Active involvement in professional or industry organizations
- Demonstrated success in business development and client growth initiatives
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams across multiple project types
