Overview
We are partnered with an established engineering consultancy seeking a Principal to help lead and grow its building technology practice in Minneapolis.
This is an opportunity for a senior building enclosure professional who combines strong technical expertise with client leadership, business development, and team mentorship.
You will lead complex investigation, repair, rehabilitation, and design projects while developing client relationships and supporting the continued growth of the practice.
The Opportunity
The role provides a balance of technical, commercial, and people leadership, with responsibility for:
- Leading complex building enclosure and existing-building projects
- Serving as the senior technical advisor and primary contact for key clients
- Overseeing project scope, quality, risk, contracts, and financial performance
- Developing new and existing client relationships
- Generating work and identifying new market opportunities
- Mentoring and developing engineers, architects, and consultants
- Reviewing reports, drawings, specifications, and proposals
- Supporting wider practice strategy and growth
Projects may include building enclosure investigations, failure analysis, repair and rehabilitation design, new construction consulting, and construction-phase services.
What They're Looking For
- Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline
- Approximately 15+ years of relevant industry experience
- Professional Engineer or Registered Architect licence
- Strong background in building enclosures, existing buildings, investigation, repair, or rehabilitation
- Experience leading complex projects and multidisciplinary teams
- Proven ability to develop client relationships and generate work
- Strong commercial judgment and understanding of project risk
- Excellent written, verbal, and client-facing communication skills
- Track record of mentoring and developing technical staff
- Willingness to travel to project sites and client meetings when required

Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary up to $270,000, dependent on experience & client base
