Structural Project Engineer
About the Opportunity
I'm partnering with a growing structural engineering consulting firm that is looking to add a Structural Project Engineer to its team. This opportunity is ideal for engineers who are ready to move beyond pure design work and take on greater responsibility for project leadership, client interaction, and team development.
Working alongside senior technical and project leaders, you'll play a key role in delivering building projects from design through construction while mentoring junior staff and developing the skills necessary for future advancement into senior engineering and project management positions.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the analysis, design, and delivery of structural engineering projects.
- Coordinate with architects, contractors, owners, and multidisciplinary design teams throughout project execution.
- Oversee project schedules, deliverables, and quality control efforts.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and design staff.
- Participate in client meetings and develop long-term professional relationships.
- Prepare and review calculations, technical reports, construction documents, and engineering deliverables.
- Support project planning, budgeting, and resource management activities.
- Conduct site visits and construction-phase engineering support as needed.
- Collaborate with firm leadership on project strategy and execution.
What They're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master's degree preferred.
- EIT required; PE strongly preferred; SE a plus.
- 5+ years of structural engineering experience in building design.
- Experience leading project tasks and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong knowledge of structural analysis and design utilizing steel, concrete, wood, masonry, or similar building materials.
- Experience with seismic design and lateral force-resisting systems.
- Familiarity with industry-standard structural analysis and BIM tools.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Interest in developing leadership, project management, and client-facing responsibilities.
Why Engineers Are Interested
- Opportunity to step into a true project leadership role rather than remaining solely focused on production design.
- Increased visibility with clients, architects, contractors, and firm leadership.
- Exposure to a diverse range of structural building projects and engineering challenges.
- Strong mentorship and support from experienced project managers and technical leaders.
- Clear advancement path toward Senior Project Engineer, Project Manager, and leadership positions.
- Collaborative environment that values technical excellence, teamwork, and professional development.
- Hybrid work flexibility available.
- Competitive compensation typically ranging from $100,000-$130,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
