A leading international engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Manager / Principal Engineer (Mechanical) to play a key technical leadership role within its Water business. This position offers the opportunity to lead the mechanical design and delivery of major municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment projects across the region.
The Role
You will act as a senior technical specialist and project leader, taking ownership of mechanical design activities from concept through to commissioning. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, you will provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and engage directly with clients, contractors, and equipment suppliers to deliver complex infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design of water and wastewater treatment facilities, from concept and feasibility through detailed design.
- Design treatment processes and systems including:
- Screening systems
- Physical and chemical treatment systems
- Biological treatment systems
- Blower and aeration systems
- Odour control systems
- Disinfection systems
- Sludge treatment facilities
- Design pumping systems for water, wastewater, and sludge applications.
- Develop ancillary systems including chemical dosing, ventilation, and drainage systems.
- Prepare mechanical equipment specifications, calculations, and design documentation.
- Review and evaluate vendor submissions and equipment proposals.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical, process, and I&C disciplines.
- Lead client, contractor, and vendor meetings.
- Support bids, proposals, and project pursuits.
- Provide technical support during construction, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Manage project budgets, cost estimates, and mechanical design deliverables.
- Lead and mentor engineering teams, ensuring quality and technical excellence.
About You
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering.
- Ideally a Professional Engineer (PE) or working towards professional registration.
- 10-15+ years of experience delivering mechanical designs for municipal and/or industrial water and wastewater treatment projects.
- Strong understanding of treatment plant equipment, mechanical systems, and pumping infrastructure.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams and manage client relationships.
- Experience reviewing and approving engineering deliverables and conducting QA/QC reviews.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to operate independently while mentoring and developing junior engineers.
