Professional Land Surveyor - Department Manager

Our client, a growing multidisciplinary consulting firm, is seeking a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to lead and expand their Survey Department in either Asheville or Charlotte. This is an excellent opportunity for a surveying professional who excels in client relationships, revenue generation, and team leadership. The firm delivers a wide range of geospatial, mapping, and traditional land‑survey services and is expanding its presence across North Carolina within a collaborative, people‑focused environment.

The PLS / Survey Department Manager will be responsible for:
* Overseeing daily survey operations, including coordination between office staff and multiple field crews
* Managing proposals, pricing, invoicing, and project financials
* Leading business development and growing revenue through strong client relationships
* Supervising and mentoring survey technicians, crew chiefs, and support staff
* Ensuring high‑quality deliverables across boundary, ALTA, topo, construction layout, and mapping projects
* Implementing efficient workflows and supporting long‑term departmental growth
* Serving as the primary point of contact for commercial and residential clients
* Collaborating closely with the local office leader and regional leadership teams

The ideal candidate will have:
* 7+ years of survey experience, including staff oversight and project management
* Active North Carolina PLS (or ability to obtain it quickly)
* Demonstrated ability to generate revenue and bring in new work
* Experience with commercial and residential land development projects
* Background overseeing multiple crews and office support staff
* Strong communication skills and confidence leading client conversations
* A stable career history without excessive movement
* Existing ties to North Carolina and an established local client base
