Position Overview

We are seeking a detail‑oriented and experienced Project Surveyor to support and manage surveying projects throughout Indiana. This role involves coordinating field crews, performing survey calculations, preparing plats and legal descriptions, and ensuring high‑quality deliverables for transportation, municipal, private development, and utility projects. The ideal candidate is technically strong, organized, and comfortable collaborating with engineers, designers, project managers, and clients.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage survey tasks, including boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction staking, and route surveys.
  • Oversee and coordinate field survey crews, providing direction and verifying quality and accuracy of collected data.
  • Perform survey computations, adjustments, and data processing using appropriate software and industry standards.
  • Prepare surveydeliverables including:
    • Plats and exhibits
    • Legal descriptions
    • ROW engineering documents
    • Digital terrain models
    • GIS and CAD data packages
  • Interpret deeds, title commitments, easements, ROW plans, and other land records.
  • Support engineering teams by providing accurate survey information for design and construction projects.
  • Maintain adherence to Indiana state surveying standards, local requirements, and accepted surveying practices.
  • Communicate project progress, resource needs, and scheduling updates to project managers.
  • Assist with proposal development, scope definition, and estimating survey tasks.
  • Ensure all work follows safety policies and proper field procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • Minimum 3-8+ years of experience in land surveying, preferably in Indiana.
  • Strong proficiency in survey and CAD software such as Civil 3D, MicroStation, Trimble Business Center, Leica/Trimble data collectors, or similar.
  • Thorough understanding of surveying principles, boundary law, and ALTA/NSPS Land Title Survey requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and collaborate effectively with internal teams and clients.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Surveyor (PS) license in Indiana or ability to obtain within 12-24 months.
  • Experience with INDOT projects, including route surveys and construction layout.
  • Familiarity with UAV/drone surveying or LiDAR scanning workflows.
  • Experience preparing ROW engineering documents and legal descriptions for public infrastructure projects.
  • Prior leadership experience managing field crews or junior survey staff.
