Project Superintendent - Construction / Environmental & Water Projects

Location: Hartford, CT | Site-Based with Regional Travel
Employment Type: Full-Time

Role Overview
An established construction organization is seeking an experienced Project Superintendent to lead field execution on complex environmental and water-related construction projects. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day site operations, coordinating subcontractors and self-performed labor, and ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with contract documents and quality standards.

The Superintendent plays a critical leadership role in successful project delivery and serves as the primary on-site representative throughout construction, commissioning, and closeout.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily field operations for construction projects including subcontractors, vendors, and direct field labor
  • Manage site logistics, safety compliance, quality control, and production sequencing
  • Interpret and enforce construction documents including plans, specifications, shop drawings, and RFIs
  • Coordinate installation of process equipment and systems related to water and environmental infrastructure
  • Lead scheduling, short-term planning, and development of detailed look-ahead schedules
  • Monitor progress against schedule and implement recovery plans when necessary
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, start-up, system integration, and commissioning activities
  • Prepare and maintain daily reports, meeting minutes, RFIs, and field documentation
  • Lead on-site coordination meetings with subcontractors and project stakeholders
  • Support punch list completion, owner turnover, and project closeout activities

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of Superintendent or Field Leadership experience in construction projects supporting water, wastewater, or environmental infrastructure
  • High school diploma or trade school education required
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage work under demanding schedules and budget constraints
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • OSHA 30 certification required

Technical Skills & Experience

  • Direct experience with installation of water and wastewater process equipment, including pumps, clarifiers, bar screens, compactors, chemical feed systems, digesters, and odor control systems
  • Strong understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes including primary, secondary, and disinfection systems
  • Experience overseeing equipment installation, start-up, systems integration, and commissioning
  • Ability to read and interpret process and instrumentation drawings and coordinate across architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines
  • Proficiency in concrete construction, formwork, placement, repairs, and masonry
  • Knowledge of process piping, rigging, and equipment setting
  • Working knowledge of plant electrical systems, instrumentation, and controls
  • Strong understanding of sitework, building systems, mechanical, and HVAC components

Project Controls & Documentation

  • Ability to develop and manage detailed four-week look-ahead schedules
  • Strong grasp of sequencing, critical path activities, and constraint management
  • Experience preparing daily reports, RFIs, and field correspondence
  • Understanding of subcontractor scope, commercial terms, and coordination requirements
  • Proficiency using project management software and Microsoft Office tools

Work Environment

  • Primarily site-based with exposure to active construction environments
  • Role may require extended hours to meet project demands
