Compensation: $170,000 - $275,000+ (Depending on Experience) + Bonus + ESOP

A well-established, employee-owned engineering consulting firm is seeking a Roadway Department Manager / Transportation Leader to help lead and expand its growing transportation practice in the Atlanta market.
This is a strategic leadership opportunity for a senior transportation professional who is passionate about team development, client relationships, project delivery, and business growth. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the future of the Georgia transportation practice while maintaining a strong presence within the GDOT marketplace.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of roadway engineers, project managers, and technical staff.
- Establish a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional development.
- Support recruiting, hiring, and talent development initiatives.
- Provide guidance and oversight on project execution and delivery.
Business Development & Client Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with GDOT, local municipalities, and transportation clients throughout Georgia.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the transportation market.
- Support marketing initiatives, proposal development, and strategic pursuits.
- Strengthen existing client partnerships while expanding the firm's presence across the state.
Project Delivery & Operations
- Oversee the successful delivery of roadway and transportation infrastructure projects.
- Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to client expectations.
- Monitor project financial performance, staffing needs, and resource planning.
- Collaborate with leadership to support operational excellence and long-term growth initiatives.
Strategic Growth
- Help drive the overall growth strategy for the Atlanta transportation practice.
- Identify opportunities for market expansion and service diversification.
- Contribute to office leadership and long-range business planning.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on transportation market trends and opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Georgia or ability to obtain.
- 15+ years of transportation engineering experience.
- Extensive experience delivering GDOT roadway projects.
- Strong understanding of roadway design, project delivery, and transportation infrastructure programs.
- Proven success managing transportation teams and client relationships.
- Demonstrated experience in business development and strategic growth initiatives.
- Previous experience as a Department Manager, Senior Project Manager, Transportation Manager, Office Leader, Practice Builder, or similar leadership role.
Preferred Experience
- GDOT design-build and alternative delivery experience.
- Established relationships within the Georgia transportation market.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary transportation teams.
- Track record of growing revenue, backlog, and staff within a transportation practice.
