Job Description: Roadway Engineer
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Roadway Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise in roadway design, plan production, and transportation engineering standards. This role involves leading or supporting the development of schematic designs, construction documents, and engineering analyses for a variety of transportation projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead or support the design and development of roadway and transportation projects, including schematics, plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E).
- Produce accurate and detailed roadway plan sets, including horizontal/vertical alignments, corridors, and cross sections.
- Perform InRoads modeling, template creation, alignment data management, and related design tasks.
- Apply LADOTD Standards, AASHTO Roadside Design Guide, MUTCD, ADA, PROWAG, and other industry design criteria.
- Conduct engineering analyses and apply sound judgment to develop practical, safe, and efficient roadway solutions.
- Coordinate with project managers, designers, and external stakeholders to ensure project requirements and deadlines are met.
- Provide clear verbal and written communication to support technical discussions, project documentation, and client coordination.
- Utilize MicroStation V8i SS2 and Microsoft Office applications for design and reporting tasks.
- Occasionally travel to project sites, client meetings, or field reviews as needed.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- 7+ years of progressive experience in transportation or roadway design.
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Roadway plan production
- InRoads Modeling and template creation
- Importing and displaying alignment data
- Creating cross sections
- Strong verbal communication, analytical, and problemāsolving skills.
- Proficiency in MicroStation V8i SS2.
- Familiarity with:
- LADOTD Standards
- AASHTO Roadside Design Guide
- MUTCD
- ADA and PROWAG requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Valid driver's license.
