SCADA Engineer

The SCADA Engineer will be responsible for the design, integration, testing, commissioning, and operation of SCADA and communication systems for offshore wind projects. The role will ensure reliable monitoring, control, data acquisition, and cyber-secure operation of wind turbines, offshore substations, onshore substations, and associated balance-of-plant systems throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

SCADA System Design & Integration

  • Support the design and implementation of offshore wind farm SCADA systems.

  • Define SCADA architecture, signal lists, communication protocols, and interface requirements.

  • Coordinate integration between wind turbines, offshore substations (OSS), onshore substations (ONS), meteorological systems, condition monitoring systems, and grid operators.

  • Ensure compatibility with industry standards including IEC 61400-25, IEC 61850, OPC UA, Modbus TCP, and IEC 60870-5-104.

Communication & Network Infrastructure

  • Support communication network architecture including fibre optic, radio, VPN, and remote-access systems.

  • Collaborate with OEMs, EPC contractors, and communication vendors to ensure seamless connectivity.

  • Troubleshoot communication and network issues across offshore assets.

Commissioning & Testing

  • Participate in FAT, SAT, SIT, and commissioning activities.

  • Verify SCADA functionality, alarms, controls, data acquisition, and reporting requirements.

  • Support energisation activities and handover to operations teams.

  • Manage punch-list closeout and technical documentation.

Operational Support

  • Monitor SCADA system performance and reliability.

  • Investigate faults and perform root cause analysis.

  • Support preventive maintenance, software upgrades, and cybersecurity patching.

  • Assist O&M teams with troubleshooting and performance optimisation.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OT and SCADA cybersecurity requirements.

  • Support implementation of IEC 62443 and other relevant standards.

  • Manage secure remote access and data integrity across offshore wind assets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Automation Engineering, Instrumentation, or a related discipline.

  • 3-8 years of experience in SCADA, automation, control systems, or power systems.

  • Offshore wind experience preferred; utility, transmission, renewable energy, oil & gas, or industrial automation backgrounds also considered.

  • Experience with PLCs, RTUs, HMI, industrial networking, and SCADA platforms.

Technical Skills

  • SCADA platforms (Siemens, ABB, Schneider, GE, Hitachi, or equivalent).

  • Industrial communication protocols:

    • IEC 61850

    • IEC 60870-5-104

    • OPC UA

    • Modbus TCP

    • DNP3

  • Network fundamentals, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and OT infrastructure.

  • FAT/SAT execution and commissioning activities.

  • Cybersecurity awareness in Operational Technology environments.

Preferred Experience

  • Offshore wind farm SCADA systems.

  • WTG integration and control systems.

  • Offshore and onshore substations.

  • Control room implementation.

  • EPC or developer-side project execution.

  • Coordination with OEMs, TSOs, and system operators.
