Senior Controls Engineer

🎓 Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement control configurations, including strategy logic, I/O mapping, hardware documentation, and user access protocols.
  • Ensure seamless integration between the cloud platform and existing on-site PLCs.
  • Validate I/O lists, confirming correct wire landings, labeling, and signal accuracy.
  • Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
  • Investigate and resolve issues within electrical panels and control signals.
  • Identify inconsistencies during system testing and collaborate with engineering teams to refine control logic.
  • Recommend and execute repairs or updates to control systems as needed.
  • Control Logic Development
  • Utilize proprietary control scripting to build and deploy:
  • Equipment-level finite state machines
  • Safety protocols and emergency responses
  • Integrated process control strategies
  • Monitor deployed systems to improve performance through:
  • Setpoint tracking and tuning
  • Response time analysis
  • Operational behavior optimization
  • Support advanced scheduling and process control initiatives.
  • Collaboration & System Enhancement
  • Provide feedback and feature suggestions to software development teams.

Define communication protocols for various control systems (e.g., Opto-22, Allen Bradley, M&M, AAIM, Andover).

Assist in integrating auxiliary systems such as tank level monitors, utility meters, and environmental sensors.

Installation Standards & Training
Review installation practices to ensure compliance with industrial standards (e.g., enclosure quality, cable routing, operator panel placement).

Help develop training materials for facility teams covering basic troubleshooting, hardware replacement, and manual system operation during critical events.

🎓 Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in industrial automation and control systems
  • Strong electrical background, including wiring, hardware installation, and troubleshooting
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred; electrical certification a plus
  • Proficient in PLC programming, especially ladder logic
  • Familiarity with multiple control platforms (Opto-22, Allen Bradley, M&M, AAIM, Andover)
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Willingness to travel 40-50% to customer sites
  • Comfortable working in industrial environments, including food processing facilities
  • Experience with ammonia-based refrigeration systems preferred but not required
  • Ability to pass RETA CARO certification within 90 days of hire
  • Physically capable of climbing ladders and working in wet, noisy conditions
