Summary:

This opportunity is with an internationally recognized engineering consulting firm specializing in mining, power, water resources, and infrastructure projects. With a legacy of technical excellence and long-term client partnerships, they deliver innovative, practical, and sustainable solutions to complex geotechnical and tailings engineering challenges around the world.

They are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with strong experience in the mining sector to join our growing team. This individual will provide technical leadership on tailings, waste rock, heap leach, and mine infrastructure projects, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary groups and supporting clients across North and South America.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Leadgeotechnical engineering design and analysis for mining projects including:
    • Tailings storage facilities (TSFs)
    • Heap leach pads
    • Waste rock dumps
    • Mine water dams
    • Mine infrastructure earthworks
  • Perform and review advanced analyses including:
    • Slope stability (static & seismic)
    • Seepage modeling
    • Settlement and deformation modeling
    • Seismic hazard evaluation & site response
  • Develop conceptual, prefeasibility, feasibility, and detailed engineering designs.
  • Oversee preparation and peer review of high-quality engineering reports, drawings, design packages, and technical memoranda.

Project & Client Management

  • Manage medium- to large-scale mining projects, including scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with major mining clients and project stakeholders.
  • Lead proposal development and contribute to strategic business growth initiatives.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior and intermediate engineers.

Field & Construction Support

  • Plan and execute geotechnical site investigations, drilling programs, and in-situ testing.
  • Conduct site visits to operating mines and greenfield sites across the U.S. and internationally.
  • Provide construction quality assurance (CQA), including earthworks inspections, review of geotechnical instrumentation data, and on-site problem solving.
  • Support operation-stage monitoring and dam safety reviews.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering; Master's degree preferred.
  • 6+ years of geotechnical engineering experience, with substantial focus on mining projects.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; eligibility for additional state or international registration preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with design and analysis software such as:
    • SLIDE, GeoStudio (SEEP/W, SLOPE/W), PLAXIS, FLAC, MSEW, gINT, LPile, etc.
  • Strong background in tailings engineering, dam design, and mine earthworks.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and client interaction skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally for short assignments.
