Position Overview

A confidential engineering consulting organization is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong central utilities experience to support complex facilities and infrastructure projects. This role focuses on providing advanced mechanical engineering expertise for mission‑critical infrastructure, with an emphasis on central boiler and chiller plants, energy efficiency, and low‑carbon systems.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer operates with a high degree of independence, applying advanced engineering techniques and exercising sound judgment on complex technical challenges. This position includes technical leadership, mentoring, and collaboration across disciplines to deliver high‑quality engineering solutions on time and within budget.


Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure internal technical policies and procedures are followed during project execution
  • Lead the development of engineering concepts, design approaches, and technical solutions for assigned projects
  • Perform advanced engineering studies, analyses, and designs for large and complex systems
  • Support project planning activities, including budgets, cost estimates, and schedules
  • Review shop drawings, track design changes, and coordinate directly with contractors, vendors, and client representatives
  • Perform on‑site inspections during construction and coordinate design requirements with contractors and equipment suppliers
  • Develop innovative engineering solutions to improve efficiency, quality, and project delivery
  • Lead or oversee project scoping, implementation, and detailed design efforts
  • Coordinate engineering designs across multiple disciplines and participate in project meetings
  • Assist with proposal development, cost estimating, and client presentations
  • Provide technical feedback to support staff performance reviews
  • Develop and maintain specialized technical expertise within targeted market sectors
  • Manage discipline‑specific schedules, deliverables, and billing milestones
  • Serve as a recognized technical expert for clients and project teams
  • Participate in professional organizations to enhance technical credibility and industry presence
  • Set technical direction for the mechanical discipline on assigned projects, delegating tasks while retaining responsibility for complex or high‑value work
  • Mentor and guide junior engineering staff

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Technical Expertise

  • Extensive experience in central boiler and chiller plant design, including:
    • Evaluation of existing systems
    • Design of new and upgraded central utility systems
  • Experience with modeling and analysis software for:
    • Central plant performance
    • Thermal distribution systems
    • Hydraulic modeling and pipe stress analysis
  • Knowledge of central plant instrumentation and controls
  • Experience with high‑performance, energy‑efficient, and low/zero‑carbon systems, including geothermal heat pump systems
