Senior Plumbing Designer
The Senior Plumbing Designer is responsible for preparing high-quality design drawings using industry-standard software, maintaining effective communication with project teams and clients, and conducting on-site observations as needed. This role also supports the organization and maintenance of completed design documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Convert architectural drawings into usable models for the design team.
- Coordinate initial project setup and ensure model updates through communication with architects.
- Create accurate and efficient electronic drawings using industry software.
- Collaborate with project engineers to develop design concepts and approaches.
- Implement design requirements and perform system layout and sizing.
- Assist with studies, load calculations, and equipment selection.
- Identify and resolve potential design issues or conflicts.
- Review shop drawings and maintain communication across disciplines.
- Participate in project meetings with clients and internal teams.
- Coordinate with external and internal stakeholders, including owners and other disciplines.
- Provide design clarification during bidding and construction phases.
- Maintain detailed records of project communications.
- Support construction administration and perform site inspections as needed.
- Address design collisions using Navisworks.
- Review plans for design accuracy and completeness.
- Contribute to project budgeting and task planning.
- Collaborate with team members and vendors to gather necessary information.
- Assist in organizing drawing packages.
- Stay current with code requirements, software, and industry trends.
- Mentor junior designers and engineers-in-training (EITs).
- Support data collection and field verification efforts.
- May manage projects, including scope definition, scheduling, client communication, QA/QC, and closeout.
- May contribute to standardization efforts and QA/QC initiatives within the design team.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in a relevant technical field and six years of experience, or eight years of relevant experience.
- Experience with large-scale projects.
- Ability to perform system or project design with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in interpreting architectural, structural, civil, and MEP plans.
- Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and discipline-specific software (e.g., TRACE, HASS, SKM).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with local/state construction guidelines and applicable codes.
- Understanding of construction terminology and basic mathematics.
- Knowledge of systems integration and engineering principles.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to comprehend and convey technical information clearly in writing.
