About the Role

A growing engineering and building performance consulting firm is looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join its Energy & Building Performance team.

This position is geared toward a highly technical professional with strong experience in energy auditing, energy analysis, retro-commissioning (RCx), and HVAC system performance optimization. The ideal candidate enjoys digging into building systems, performing detailed calculations, developing energy-saving strategies, and producing high-quality technical reports.

This is not primarily a project management role. Instead, the focus is on delivering technical expertise, energy evaluations, and building performance analysis for complex commercial, institutional, healthcare, and laboratory facilities.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead and perform comprehensive energy audits and retro-commissioning studies for existing facilities.
  • Conduct detailed field investigations of HVAC, controls, and building systems.
  • Analyze building performance and identify energy conservation measures (ECMs).
  • Perform energy calculations and savings analyses using Excel and industry-standard modeling tools.
  • Develop technical reports, audit findings, and client recommendations.
  • Review mechanical and controls systems to identify operational improvements and efficiency opportunities.
  • Evaluate equipment performance, operating sequences, and control strategies.
  • Support sustainability initiatives, ENERGY STAR benchmarking, and green building programs.
  • Present technical findings and recommendations to clients and project teams.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams on building performance projects.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 7-10 years of experience in:
    • Energy Engineering
    • Retro-Commissioning (RCx)
    • Energy Audits
    • Building Performance Analysis
    • HVAC Systems Optimization
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, controls, and facility operations.
  • Experience developing energy models and performing energy savings calculations.
  • Excellent technical writing and analytical skills.
  • Ability to independently perform assessments and develop actionable recommendations for clients.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM), CCP, CPMP, BEAP, or similar credential.
  • Experience with healthcare, laboratory, higher education, or other complex facilities.
  • Active involvement with organizations such as ASHRAE, AEE, or USGBC.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Technical leadership role with minimal administrative burden.
  • Opportunity to work on sophisticated building performance and energy projects.
  • Strong pipeline of retro-commissioning and energy-efficiency work.
  • Exposure to complex facilities and high-impact sustainability initiatives.
  • Clear opportunities for long-term growth within a well-established consulting environment.

If you're passionate about building performance, energy efficiency, and solving complex HVAC and controls challenges, we'd love to speak with you confidentially.
