Senior Project Manager | Public Works
Senior Project Manager - Public Works & Roadway (California PE)
The Opportunity
This role is for an experienced public works leader who wants real ownership. You won't just support projects, you'll run them. You'll lead roadway and public works projects from kickoff through construction and be the main point of contact for clients from start to finish.
You'll work directly with city engineers, public works directors and agency staff. You'll also lead a capable team of engineers and designers. When a client needs answers, solutions or results, you're the person they'll call.
This is a chance to make a visible impact on the communities you serve and to help shape the future of a growing firm.
What You'll Be Doing
- Own projects from start to finish: Lead roadway, street and public works projects from scoping and kickoff through design, bidding and construction.
- Manage client relationships: Act as the trusted advisor to city engineers, public works directors and agency stakeholders, and build long-term partnerships that bring in repeat work.
- Control schedules and budgets: Keep projects on track, within scope and profitable, and communicate proactively when priorities change.
- Oversee design production: Guide plan development in Civil 3D and make sure deliverables meet Caltrans, Greenbook and local agency standards.
- Support construction: Review submittals, answer RFIs and keep projects moving smoothly in the field.
- Coordinate with agencies: Work through approvals, permits and multi-agency coordination with confidence.
- Win new work: Lead proposals, shape win strategies and help grow the firm's public sector client base.
- Develop the team: Mentor junior engineers and designers, share your expertise and help build the next generation of public works leaders.
- Shape the firm's direction: Have a real voice in how the firm grows, operates and serves its clients.
What You Bring
- An active Professional Engineer (PE) license in California
- 15+ years of experience in public works engineering
- A proven record of managing street, roadway or parkway projects for cities or public agencies
- Strong command of Civil 3D, with deep knowledge of Caltrans standards, the Greenbook and local agency requirements
- Confidence owning client relationships and being the face of a project
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to guide teams and keep stakeholders aligned
- Experience leading or contributing to proposals and business development
Why This Role Stands Out
- Real ownership: You'll have full accountability for your projects, along with the authority to deliver them your way.
- Direct client access: You'll build relationships with the agency decision-makers who shape their communities.
- Leadership and impact: You'll lead and mentor a team while helping influence where the firm goes next.
- A long-term home: This is a place to build a lasting career, not a stepping stone. You'll grow alongside a firm that invests in its people.
