Senior Safety Manager-Underground Utilities

We are partnering with a well-established heavy civil and utility contractor seeking an experienced Senior Safety Manager to lead and strengthen safety operations across multiple underground utility construction projects throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

This is a high-impact leadership role for a safety professional who thrives in the field, can effectively influence operational teams, and is passionate about building a proactive safety culture. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience supporting underground wet utility construction, including water, sewer, storm drain, and related infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all aspects of project safety and health programs across multiple active construction sites.
  • Partner with operations leadership, project managers, and superintendents to ensure safety remains a core operational priority.
  • Conduct regular site audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
  • Develop and implement corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns while identifying root causes and preventive measures.
  • Deliver training, coaching, and mentorship to field personnel and frontline supervisors.
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and client safety requirements.
  • Track safety metrics, maintain documentation, and prepare reports for executive leadership.
  • Support pre-construction planning by identifying project-specific risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Help drive a culture where safety, accountability, and operational excellence are aligned.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of construction safety experience.
  • Significant experience supporting underground utility, heavy civil, water, wastewater, sewer, storm drain, or related infrastructure projects.
  • Proven ability to manage safety across multiple projects and crews simultaneously.
  • Strong working knowledge of excavation safety, trenching and shoring, confined space entry, utility installation, heavy equipment operations, and traffic control.
  • OSHA 500, CHST, CSP, or related certifications preferred.
  • Strong incident investigation and root cause analysis experience.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence field and management teams alike.
  • Ability to build relationships and gain buy-in from project teams at all levels.
