Senior Transmission Line Engineer
Overview
A growing engineering consulting firm serving electric utility clients is seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer to provide technical leadership on complex high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) overhead transmission projects. This role offers the opportunity to lead design efforts, mentor engineers, collaborate directly with utility clients, and contribute to the development and delivery of critical power infrastructure programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and execution of overhead transmission line projects.
- Develop and approve PLS-CADD design criteria and finalize transmission line models.
- Support line routing, structure design, foundation design, and clearance analysis activities.
- Coordinate project schedules and technical deliverables for engineering teams.
- Lead client meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions.
- Collaborate with substation, environmental, right-of-way, construction, and maintenance stakeholders.
- Support permitting, material specifications, procurement, and construction activities.
- Provide technical guidance on complex engineering challenges and design decisions.
- Mentor and train junior engineers while supporting overall team development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience designing overhead transmission lines for electric utility projects.
- Advanced proficiency with PLS-CADD and transmission line modeling.
- Strong knowledge of NESC, IEEE, ASCE, and ACI standards.
- Experience with structure design, foundation design, and clearance assessments.
- Background supporting HV and EHV transmission systems.
- Demonstrated client-facing experience and relationship management skills.
- Proven ability to lead projects and mentor engineering teams.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- 8+ years of transmission line engineering experience.
- Hands-on experience designing overhead transmission lines using PLS-CADD.
- Strong communication, leadership, and project coordination skills.
- Ability to successfully complete applicable pre-employment requirements.
