A well-established engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Water/Fish Passage Engineer to join their Portland-based team. This is a unique opportunity to lead meaningful ecological restoration projects focused on reconnecting aquatic habitats and improving fish migration pathways across the Pacific Northwest.


About the Role

In this senior-level position, you'll take the lead on planning, designing, and delivering fish passage and stream restoration projects. You'll work closely with interdisciplinary teams-including biologists, hydrologists, and regulatory experts-to develop sustainable, science-based solutions that support healthy waterways and ecosystems.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of fish passage systems such as culvert replacements, fish ladders, and dam retrofits.
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling to support feasibility studies and design development.
  • Prepare engineering reports, construction documents, and permit applications.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical leadership within the practice.
  • Stay current with best practices, regulatory updates, and innovations in fish passage and aquatic restoration.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience in fish passage, stream restoration, or aquatic habitat design.
  • PE license preferred.
  • Strong understanding of fish biology, hydrology, and hydraulic design principles.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, HEC-RAS, and GIS software.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
  • Passion for environmental restoration and sustainable infrastructure.
