Senior Water Resources Engineer
Our client is seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to play a pivotal role in expanding and strengthening their transportation and infrastructure capabilities across New Jersey and New York. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced H&H professional who wants more than just project delivery. You'll help shape a growing practice, influence technical standards, mentor engineers, and lead complex hydraulic and drainage projects for major public-sector clients.
Working alongside bridge, roadway, and civil engineering teams, you'll develop integrated solutions for transportation, resiliency, and infrastructure projects from planning through final design and construction.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analyses for bridge, culvert, roadway, and infrastructure projects
- Develop and review HEC-RAS models for floodplain and open channel evaluations
- Perform watershed modelling, rainfall-runoff analysis, and peak flow assessments using HEC-HMS, HydroCAD, and similar platforms
- Conduct bridge hydraulic studies, scour evaluations, overtopping assessments, and waterway adequacy analyses
- Evaluate flood risks, resiliency strategies, floodplain impacts, and climate adaptation considerations
- Design drainage and stormwater management systems including storm sewer networks, culverts, detention and retention facilities, outfalls, and green infrastructure
- Prepare technical reports, permit applications, and supporting documentation for regulatory reviews
- Support flood hazard area permitting and stormwater compliance efforts
- Coordinate closely with bridge, structural, and transportation design teams
- Participate in site investigations and field assessments
- Provide technical support during construction
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to project delivery excellence
- Support business development, proposal preparation, and practice growth initiatives
What We're Looking For
- BS in Civil Engineering or related discipline
- 8+ years of water resources engineering experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence required
- Strong experience delivering transportation-related H&H projects
- Expertise in HEC-RAS and hydraulic modelling
- Experience with HEC-HMS, HydroCAD, PondPack, StormCAD, or similar tools
- Bridge hydraulics and scour analysis experience
- Strong understanding of stormwater management and drainage design
- Experience with agency permitting and regulatory submissions
- Ability to lead projects, mentor staff, and manage multiple priorities
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
