About the Role
We are representing a leading national general contractor in their search for a seasoned Lead/General Superintendent to oversee the field operations of a multi-phase hyperscale data center campus in Northern Virginia. This is a high-impact leadership role on a flagship project for a global technology client, requiring deep expertise in mission-critical construction and exceptional field management capabilities.
The selected candidate will be responsible for all on-site construction activities, including safety, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, and quality control. You will lead a team of superintendents and field staff, ensuring the successful delivery of a complex, high-value project in one of the most active data center markets in the world.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership
- Serve as the senior field leader overseeing all phases of construction across the campus.
- Lead and mentor a team of superintendents, assistant superintendents, and field engineers.
- Collaborate with project management to align field execution with project goals, budget, and schedule.
Field Operations
- Direct and coordinate site logistics, daily operations, and construction sequencing.
- Enforce strict safety standards and promote a culture of safety excellence.
- Oversee quality assurance and control to meet or exceed client expectations.
Scheduling & Coordination
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules in collaboration with the project team.
- Manage critical path activities and proactively address potential delays.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and consultants to ensure timely and efficient execution.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a key liaison between the client (confidential hyperscale operator), design team, and contractor leadership.
- Participate in OAC (Owner-Architect-Contractor) meetings and provide regular progress updates.
- Maintain strong relationships with local authorities, utility providers, and inspection agencies.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in commercial construction, with at least 5 years in a superintendent or general superintendent role.
- Proven experience managing large-scale, mission-critical projects-preferably hyperscale or colocation data centers.
- Strong knowledge of MEP systems, structural steel, envelope systems, and commissioning processes.
- OSHA 30 certification required; additional safety credentials preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, Bluebeam).
