Lead a Growing Forensic Engineering Practice Across Florida
An established and highly respected engineering consulting firm is seeking a Director of Project Development to lead and expand its Forensic & Investigative Engineering practice throughout Florida.
This is a unique opportunity for a senior structural or forensic engineering professional looking to combine technical leadership, business development, team management, and strategic growth. You'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the Florida operation while leading complex investigations, developing client relationships, and mentoring the next generation of engineers.
What You'll Be Doing
Technical Leadership
- Lead complex forensic engineering and structural investigation projects.
- Investigate structural failures, damage, deterioration, and construction defects.
- Oversee facility condition assessments and building evaluations.
- Review engineering findings and technical reports for quality and accuracy.
- Act as a senior technical resource and trusted advisor to clients.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineering staff.
Business Development
- Develop and execute growth strategies across the Florida market.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships.
- Identify new project opportunities and expand market presence.
- Participate in client presentations, interviews, and proposal efforts.
- Represent the firm within the engineering, construction, and insurance communities.
- Drive long-term client satisfaction and repeat business.
Team & Practice Leadership
- Recruit, mentor, and develop engineering professionals.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture.
- Lead QA/QC initiatives and promote technical excellence.
- Support employee growth, succession planning, and retention efforts.
- Help build and scale a successful regional forensic engineering practice.
Business Operations
- Manage project financial performance, profitability, and resource planning.
- Oversee schedules, workloads, and project delivery.
- Support strategic planning initiatives across the Florida business.
- Identify operational improvements and best practices.
What We're Looking For
Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida or ability to obtain.
- 10+ years of experience within structural engineering, forensic engineering, or investigative consulting.
- Proven experience managing projects, clients, and engineering teams.
- Strong report writing and communication skills.
- Demonstrated business development and client relationship experience.
- Ability to travel throughout Florida as required.
Preferred
- Experience performing forensic investigations and failure analyses.
- Structural repair and rehabilitation design experience.
- Building envelope assessment experience.
- AutoCAD and/or Revit proficiency.
- Previous experience growing a team, office, practice, or business unit.
- Strong network within the Florida engineering, insurance, or construction markets.
