Survey Manager - Utility & Renewable Energy (remote flexible)

A nationally recognized engineering and consulting firm is seeking a Survey Manager to support a growing portfolio of utility, power, and renewable energy projects across the United States.

This position is ideal for a licensed survey professional who enjoys leading teams, managing complex projects, and serving as a trusted advisor to clients. The role offers exposure to utility-scale infrastructure developments, opportunities to help grow the business, and a defined path toward regional leadership for individuals interested in expanding their responsibilities beyond project delivery.

The preference is for this individual to be based in Phoenix, but the firm is open to fully remote candidates who have extensive utility and/or renewable energy surveying experience and a proven track record of successfully managing projects with minimal oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Lead survey efforts for utility, power, transmission, substation, renewable energy, and other large-scale infrastructure projects
  • Manage survey projects from proposal development through final deliverables
  • Oversee field and office survey teams across multiple concurrent projects
  • Review boundary surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, easement exhibits, route surveys, and legal descriptions
  • Coordinate directly with engineers, utility providers, developers, contractors, and project stakeholders
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and staffing plans
  • Ensure high-quality deliverables through established QA/QC processes
  • Support business development initiatives and maintain strong client relationships
  • Mentor and develop survey staff, technicians, and future leaders
  • Help drive strategic growth initiatives across the utility and energy sectors

Qualifications

  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS/RLS) license required
  • 8+ years of progressive land surveying experience
  • Experience managing survey projects and leading technical teams
  • Strong background supporting utility, power delivery, renewable energy, transmission, substation, or similar infrastructure projects
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong communication, leadership, and client-facing skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight

Technical Experience

Experience with several of the following:

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Trimble Business Center
  • Carlson Survey
  • GPS/GNSS technologies
  • Robotic total stations
  • LiDAR and reality capture technologies
  • Drone/UAS data collection
  • Survey data processing and quality control workflows

Preferred Qualifications

  • Utility-scale solar project experience
  • Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project experience
  • Transmission line corridor surveying experience
  • Substation and power delivery project experience
  • Multi-state project management experience
  • Business development and client management experience
  • Interest in future practice leadership or regional leadership responsibilities
