Traffic Engineer

We are partnered with a nationally recognized engineering consulting firm that is experiencing significant growth across its transportation practice. Backed by a strong project backlog and continued investment in transportation infrastructure, the firm is seeking a Traffic Engineer to support a diverse portfolio of roadway, ITS, and traffic signal projects throughout North Carolina. This opportunity offers exposure to high-profile transportation projects, technical career growth, and the stability of a well-established national organization.

The Traffic Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Developing traffic engineering designs for transportation improvement projects.
  • Preparing traffic signal plans, ITS designs, signing and pavement marking plans, and related construction documents.
  • Supporting traffic operations analyses, signal timing evaluations, and traffic impact studies.
  • Coordinating with project managers, clients, local agencies, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Assisting with the delivery of NCDOT and municipal transportation projects from concept through construction.
  • Performing quality control reviews and ensuring designs comply with applicable standards and specifications.
  • Contributing to project schedules, budgets, and successful project execution.

The Traffic Engineer should have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of traffic engineering, transportation engineering, ITS, or traffic signal design experience.
  • EIT certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience preparing traffic signal and/or ITS design plans.
  • Familiarity with NCDOT standards, specifications, and project delivery processes.
  • Proficiency with design and analysis software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads, Synchro, VISSIM, or similar tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
