Transmission Planning Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Transmission Planning Engineer to lead and support power system studies and planning initiatives for our growing operations in the Dallas region. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong analytical skills, and a collaborative mindset to help ensure the reliability, efficiency, and resilience of the transmission network.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct steady-state, dynamic, and contingency analysis using industry-standard software (PSS®E, PSLF, PowerWorld, TARA).
- Develop and evaluate transmission expansion plans, interconnection studies, and system impact assessments.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders including utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and regulatory bodies.
- Interpret and apply NERC, FERC, and regional reliability standards in planning activities.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for regulatory filings and stakeholder engagement.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of planning methodologies and tools.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE); Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in transmission planning, power system analysis, or related field.
- Proficiency in one or more of the following tools: PSS®E, PSLF, PowerWorld, TARA.
- Strong understanding of power flow, stability, and short-circuit analysis.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and planning processes in ERCOT or other U.S. regions.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with scripting or automation in Python, MATLAB, or similar.
- Knowledge of renewable integration, grid modernization, and emerging technologies.
- PE license or ability to obtain one is a plus.
