Transportation Drainage Lead
Our client, a respected regional, employee-owned civil engineering firm, is seeking a Transportation Drainage Engineer to join their Salt Lake City team. This senior-level role focuses on delivering high-quality drainage and stormwater designs for major transportation and roadway projects across the Mountain West. Key Responsibilities
- Lead drainage design for roadway, highway, and transportation infrastructure projects
- Perform complex hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HY-8, StormCAD, Civil 3D, and related tools
- Prepare and review drainage reports, stormwater management plans, and impact analyses
- Design culverts, storm sewer systems, detention/retention basins, and erosion control measures
- Serve as a technical resource for transportation teams and provide expert-level guidance on drainage components
- Coordinate with state DOTs, local municipalities, regulatory agencies, and internal project teams
- Oversee QA/QC reviews for calculations, plans, and technical deliverables
- Assist with project scoping, proposal development, and client communications
- Mentor junior engineers and support team development
Required Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- 7+ years of civil engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on roadway/transportation drainage
- Demonstrated experience with drainage design for DOT (UDOT preferred) or municipal projects
- Proficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tools and CAD-based workflows
- Strong knowledge of stormwater regulations, permitting, and design criteria
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines and communicate effectively with clients and project teams
Preferred Experience
- Experience with UDOT, ITD, municipal public works, or FHWA-funded projects
- Familiarity with advanced 2D modeling (SRH-2D, XP-SWMM, similar tools)
- Prior experience mentoring or guiding junior staff
- Ability to support project management tasks
