Traveling Superintendent - Large-Scale Commercial

A respected employee-owned commercial contractor is seeking an experienced Traveling Superintendent to oversee the field execution of large-scale healthcare construction projects across the country. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of complex projects while working for a company known for its collaborative culture, commitment to safety, and diverse portfolio of healthcare, senior living, institutional, hospitality, multifamily, and commercial work.

About the Role

As the Traveling Superintendent, you will serve as the onsite leader responsible for coordinating daily construction activities, managing subcontractors, maintaining project schedules, and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently. You'll play a critical role in driving project performance while maintaining strong communication with project teams, ownership groups, design professionals, and trade partners.

Projects are typically complex ground-up healthcare developments ranging from approximately $25M to $80M+ in value.

Core Responsibilities

  • Direct all onsite construction operations throughout the life cycle of the project.
  • Develop and maintain short-term and long-term project schedules.
  • Lead subcontractor coordination and workforce planning efforts.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and facilitate site safety meetings.
  • Enforce OSHA compliance and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, change orders, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate material procurement, site logistics, equipment needs, and delivery schedules.
  • Partner with project management teams to proactively address field challenges and maintain project momentum.
  • Facilitate subcontractor kickoff and coordination meetings.
  • Monitor quality standards and ensure work is completed in accordance with project requirements.
  • Maintain accurate jobsite reports, documentation, and project records.
  • Identify potential issues before they impact cost, quality, or schedule performance.
  • Drive projects to successful completion while maintaining high standards of workmanship and client satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; additional construction education is preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience leading commercial construction projects in a Superintendent capacity.
  • Healthcare construction experience is highly preferred.
  • Proven success delivering ground-up commercial projects valued between $25M and $80M+.
  • Comfortable traveling nationwide for project assignments.
  • Strong background managing subcontractors, site logistics, and multiple trades simultaneously.
  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, Microsoft Excel, or similar construction management platforms.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions in the field, and solve problems effectively.
  • Demonstrated commitment to jobsite safety and quality control.
