Electrical Engineer - Water & Wastewater Infrastructure

Location: Denver, CO (Hybrid Schedule)
Salary Range: $150,000 - $180,000+
Travel: Approximately 10-20%

Position Overview

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to support and lead electrical design efforts for municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects throughout Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region. This role combines electrical power distribution design, client interaction, power system analysis, construction support, and business development responsibilities while working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams.

The ideal candidate has experience with medium- and low-voltage electrical systems, power studies, and infrastructure projects and is comfortable serving as a technical resource for both clients and internal project teams.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Design & Engineering

• Lead electrical design efforts for water and wastewater treatment facilities and related infrastructure projects.
• Design medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems for pumping stations, treatment plants, and utility facilities.
• Prepare and review electrical engineering calculations, design drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
• Coordinate electrical designs with mechanical, structural, process, and instrumentation teams.
• Provide technical guidance to engineering and design personnel supporting project execution.

Power Systems & Technical Analysis

• Perform and review power system studies including:
  • Short-circuit studies
  • Protective device coordination studies
  • Arc flash hazard analyses
  • Electrical reliability evaluations
  • Energy optimization assessments
• Support startup and testing of major electrical equipment.
• Review supplier and vendor submittals for conformance with project requirements.
• Coordinate project requirements with local electric utilities and stakeholders.

Construction & Client Support

• Support construction-phase services including field investigations, inspections, and issue resolution.
• Assist with startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
• Serve as a liaison between clients, project teams, and remote design groups.
• Support instrumentation and control system coordination activities.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships through technical expertise and customer service.

Business Development

• Support proposal development and project pursuits.
• Assist with expanding electrical engineering services throughout the region.
• Participate in client meetings and identify opportunities for future project work.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
• 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, power distribution, consulting engineering, or utility infrastructure projects.
• Colorado Professional Engineer (P.E.) license OR Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification with successful completion of the FE exam.
• Experience designing medium- and low-voltage electrical systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical power distribution equipment and facility electrical systems.
• Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and applicable utility standards.
• Strong communication and client-facing skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting water and wastewater treatment facilities.
• Previous consulting engineering experience.
• Experience with:
  • Variable frequency drives (VFDs)
  • Standby and emergency generators
  • Motor control systems
  • Utility coordination
  • Electrical construction support
• Experience performing power system studies using:
  • SKM PowerTools
  • ETAP
  • EasyPower or similar software
• Experience supporting business development and client management activities.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $130,000 - $180,000+, depending on experience, education, certifications, and project leadership experience.
