Water/Wastewater Project Engineer - Syracuse

We are seeking a Project Engineer to join a growing Water/Wastewater team. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of water infrastructure projects, helping communities maintain reliable water distribution, collection, treatment, and environmental compliance systems.

Water and wastewater projects present unique technical, environmental, public health, and regulatory challenges. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced professionals to develop practical and innovative solutions supporting municipal and utility infrastructure improvements.

Responsibilities

• Apply advanced engineering principles and practices to water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
• Prepare and review engineering designs, calculations, technical reports, and supporting documentation.
• Develop and evaluate design solutions using established engineering methodologies and industry best practices.
• Review project documents for technical accuracy, quality control, and compliance with project requirements.
• Analyze and interpret data, identify issues, and develop effective solutions.
• Assist in the development of scopes of work, project budgets, and schedules.
• Support proposal preparation and pursuit efforts for new projects.
• Coordinate and provide guidance to engineering, technical, and support staff.
• Plan and oversee detailed engineering tasks and project deliverables.
• Work closely with project managers and design teams to deliver projects within established schedules and budgets.
• Conduct site visits and field investigations as needed.
• Prepare conceptual designs and preliminary layouts for project development.
• Perform and review hydraulic calculations and utility system designs.
• Lead internal project meetings and participate in client coordination meetings.
• Provide technical mentorship and support to junior engineering staff.
• Prepare and review pump station and conveyance system designs.
• Assist with construction-phase services, including review of shop drawings, RFIs, change orders, payment applications, and contractor coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT/FE) certification preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• 4-6+ years of experience in civil or environmental engineering with a focus on water and wastewater infrastructure.
• Experience with water, wastewater, and pipeline/conveyance system design.
• Familiarity with pump stations, water treatment, and wastewater treatment facilities preferred.
• Experience with engineering design software and CAD platforms preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to analyze technical information and develop practical engineering solutions.
• Experience with water and wastewater treatment process design is desirable.
