Senior Wildlife Ecologist / Project Manager

Salary: $70,000-$115,000
We are working with an established environmental consulting firm seeking a Senior Wildlife Ecologist / Project Manager to join its growing ecological services team. This position is ideal for an experienced wildlife professional who combines strong California biological resources expertise with project management, regulatory compliance, and client-facing experience.
The role will support a diverse portfolio of projects throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and Central California Coast, with opportunities to manage projects from environmental review through implementation.
Responsibilities
- Manage biological and ecological projects, including schedules, budgets, deliverables, and multidisciplinary project teams
- Prepare and review CEQA and NEPA documentation related to biological resources
- Support Federal and California Endangered Species Act consultations
- Conduct and oversee wildlife surveys, biological constraints assessments, and pre-construction surveys
- Develop avoidance, minimization, mitigation, and monitoring measures for sensitive wildlife species and habitats
- Support environmental permitting, construction monitoring, compliance documentation, and agency coordination
- Prepare and review high-quality technical reports and biological documentation
- Serve as a primary contact for clients, regulatory agencies, and project partners
- Mentor and support junior wildlife ecology staff
- Contribute to proposals, client development, and the continued growth of the ecological practice
Qualifications
- M.S. or Ph.D. in wildlife ecology, biology, environmental science, or a related discipline, or equivalent extensive local experience
- 4+ years of applicable professional experience, including at least 1 year of management experience
- Strong knowledge of California wildlife species and habitats, ideally within the Bay Area and Central Coast
- Experience with CEQA/NEPA and federal and California Endangered Species Act compliance
- Strong technical writing and report preparation skills
- Demonstrated project management, organization, and client communication skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with botanists, wetland scientists, restoration ecologists, GIS specialists, scientists, and engineers
