With a global presence, it plays a key role in the shift towards greener energy, serving both industrial and residential sectors.
- Serve as the Electrical Engineer Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Advisor, supporting utility-scale operations.
- Act as a technical leader and provide mentorship to junior engineers.
- Ensure the safe operation of BESS facilities and participate in design reviews.
- Manage the electrical design of battery-based energy storage systems, with a deep understanding of BESS architecture (rack, module, container, plant-level controls).
- Prepare Site Acceptance Test (SAT) and integration test plans for BESS systems.
- Conduct technical reviews of vendor-provided documents.
- Based in Houston, TX, supporting assets across the US and Canada.
Responsibilities:
- Mentor junior engineers on technical aspects of BESS operations and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with various internal teams, representing Operations in project design reviews, including drawing and study assessments.
- Perform complex engineering calculations related to equipment sizing, load flow, short circuits, arc flash, and grounding.
- Interface with system operators (ERCOT, PJM, SPP, MISO) on technical issues, including operations planning and modeling.
- Lead development and improvement of commissioning, maintenance, and standard operating procedures.
- Review maintenance records and recommend corrective actions to ensure compliance with NERC standards.
- Organize feedback sessions for lessons learned, including root cause analysis (Six Sigma, DMAIC, fishbone), and safety-related events.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent education and utility experience.
- At least seven (7) years of relevant engineering experience with energy storage systems.
- Basic knowledge of SCADA networks and protocols like MODBUS, DNP3, and proprietary SCADA systems.
- Working knowledge of battery chemistries and their impact on BESS design.
- Familiarity with engineering standards such as NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI.
