Job Description: As a Transportation Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and optimizing transportation systems to meet the evolving needs of our city. From traffic engineering and public transit planning to infrastructure design and project management, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects that shape the future of transportation in Chicago.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop transportation plans, designs, and strategies that enhance mobility and accessibility.
- Conduct traffic studies, analyze data, and develop innovative solutions to improve traffic flow, safety, and efficiency.
- Design transportation infrastructure, including roads, highways, transit facilities, and pedestrian/bicycle facilities, using industry-leading tools and techniques.
- Manage transportation projects from concept to completion, including planning, design, permitting, and construction phases.
- Engage with stakeholders, including government agencies, community groups, and private sector partners, to gather input, address concerns, and build consensus around transportation projects.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in transportation engineering and apply them to project work.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Illinois or the ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe.
- 3-5 years of experience in transportation engineering or a related field, with a focus on urban transportation projects.
- Proficiency in transportation modeling software (e.g., VISSIM, Synchro) and GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience with project management, including planning, budgeting, and scheduling.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and engage with diverse stakeholders.
