Our client, a respected engineering consulting firm with a growing footprint in the Midwest, is seeking a Water Resources Project Engineer to lead and support infrastructure projects focused on stormwater, flood mitigation, and watershed management. This is a prime opportunity for a seasoned engineer to take on a leadership role while contributing to impactful work in a dynamic urban environment.

Position Overview
The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise and extensive project experience in water resources engineering, with a strong foundation in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, design, and regulatory compliance. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions across the Chicago metro area and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement stormwater management systems, erosion control measures, and flood mitigation strategies
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using tools such as HEC-RAS, SWMM, HY-8, and TR-55
  • Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling
  • Prepare technical reports, permit applications, and regulatory documentation
  • Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal teams
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to proposal development and business growth

Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • Minimum of 9 years of experience in water resources engineering
  • Illinois PE license preferred (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and water modeling software
  • Familiarity with Illinois EPA, IDOT, and local permitting processes
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
