Senior Traffic Engineer
Our client, a regional, employee-owned engineering firm, is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to lead traffic planning and design efforts across Michigan. This is a great opportunity for someone with 5+ years of traffic engineering experience who is ready to take on a strategic role in delivering high-impact transportation solutions.
The Senior Traffic Engineer will be responsible for:
- Leading traffic studies, signal design, and corridor planning projects
- Preparing traffic impact analyses, safety assessments, and operational reviews
- Overseeing the development of signal timing plans and traffic modeling
- Coordinating with DOTs, municipalities, and private clients to ensure project success
- Mentoring junior engineers and supporting QA/QC processes
- Managing project schedules, budgets, and client communications
- Supporting proposal development and business growth initiatives
The ideal candidate will have:
- At least 5 years of traffic engineering experience
- Strong knowledge of traffic analysis tools (Synchro, VISSIM, HCS, etc.)
- Experience with signal design, traffic studies, and corridor planning
- Familiarity with MDOT standards and local agency coordination
- PE license (or ability to obtain in Michigan)
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and mentor junior staff
