Location: Flexible within Montana (Billings, Helena, Great Falls, Missoula, Bozeman, or Kalispell)
Salary: $100,000- $150,000 + Bonus(s)
An established and respected commercial building general contractor with offices throughout Montana-including Billings, Helena, Great Falls, Missoula, Bozeman, and Kalispell-is seeking an experienced Preconstruction Manager to join its leadership team. This organization is known for delivering high-quality commercial projects and fostering long-term relationships across the state.
This role offers the opportunity to play a key role in shaping projects from early planning through final pricing, working closely with internal teams and external partners to deliver accurate, strategic preconstruction solutions.
Position Responsibilities
- Lead all preconstruction activities from conceptual design through GMP and final pricing
- Develop conceptual, schematic, and detailed cost estimates
- Provide value engineering, budget optimization, and cost analysis solutions
- Collaborate with owners, architects, engineers, and internal project teams
- Manage subcontractor outreach, bid packaging, scope reviews, and bid leveling
- Identify project risks, cost drivers, and opportunities for improvement
- Support project pursuits, proposals, and client presentations
- Maintain historical cost data and contribute to continuous process improvement
Experience Needed
- 5+ years of experience in commercial construction preconstruction or estimating
- Demonstrated experience developing conceptual and detailed estimates
- Previous experience working for a commercial general contractor preferred
- Exposure to a variety of commercial project types
- Proven ability to partner with designers and project teams during preconstruction
Qualifications Needed
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and materials
- Proficiency with preconstruction and estimating software (e.g., Procore, Sage, Bluebeam, or similar)
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Highly organized with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to work collaboratively with teams across Montana locations
