An established, family-owned mechanical contractor with more than 50 years of success is seeking a Senior HVAC Estimator to join its team in Smithfield, Rhode Island.

This is a fully in-office role ideal for an experienced estimator who enjoys collaborating with operations teams, visiting project sites, and playing a key role in winning complex mechanical projects.
Position Overview
The Senior HVAC Estimator will lead the preparation of detailed and competitive estimates for commercial and public works mechanical construction projects throughout Rhode Island and the surrounding region.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience estimating HVAC and mechanical systems, including pipefitting, ductwork, and refrigeration systems, with a strong background in public bidding environments. Projects range from schools and municipal facilities to wastewater treatment plants and other government-funded work, with bid values reaching $10 million+.
Attention to detail, strong technical knowledge, and the ability to develop accurate, competitive pricing strategies are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare complete cost estimates for HVAC and mechanical construction projects.
- Review plans, specifications, and bid documents to develop accurate scopes and pricing.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for piping, ductwork, refrigeration, and associated mechanical systems.
- Lead estimating efforts for public works, municipal, educational, and wastewater treatment projects.
- Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
- Visit project sites as needed to assess conditions and support bidding efforts.
- Work closely with project management, operations, and executive leadership during the pursuit process.
- Analyze project risks and opportunities to develop winning bid strategies.
- Participate in bid reviews and presentations with company leadership.
- Maintain strong relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and industry partners.
- Support both traditional plan-and-spec and design-build opportunities.

Qualifications
- 10+ years of mechanical/HVAC estimating experience.
- Strong background estimating pipefitting, ductwork, and refrigeration systems.
- Demonstrated success estimating public works and government-funded projects.
- Experience bidding schools, municipal facilities, wastewater treatment plants, and similar institutional projects.
- Comfortable leading estimates for projects valued up to $10 million or more.
- Proficiency with estimating software, takeoff tools, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong understanding of mechanical construction means, methods, and labor productivity.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
