Applications Engineer
The Opportunity
A growing global water technology company is seeking an Applications Engineer to support the expansion of its advanced membrane solutions across the United States.
This is a technical, customer-facing position sitting between sales, engineering, and project development. The Applications Engineer will work closely with customers, engineering firms, integrators, and internal commercial teams to evaluate water treatment applications, select appropriate membrane solutions, develop system concepts, and support projects from initial feasibility through piloting and commercial implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to the U.S. commercial team throughout the sales and project-development process.
- Review customer water analyses, treatment objectives, operating conditions, and process requirements.
- Develop preliminary membrane system designs, process configurations, and equipment sizing.
- Perform membrane projections, mass balances, recovery calculations, flux calculations, and other technical evaluations.
- Recommend appropriate nanofiltration, ultrafiltration, or microfiltration solutions based on customer applications.
- Support treatment applications involving industrial wastewater reuse, process water, surface water, organics/color removal, micropollutants and PFAS, hardness, and other contaminants. These are representative applications of the underlying technology.
- Prepare technical proposals, process descriptions, equipment specifications, and supporting engineering documentation.
- Work directly with customers, consulting engineers, OEMs, and system integrators to determine technical feasibility.
- Assist with laboratory testing, pilot studies, demonstrations, and interpretation of performance data.
- Troubleshoot membrane performance and provide recommendations related to operating conditions, fouling, cleaning, pretreatment, and system optimization.
- Support technical presentations, customer meetings, conferences, and training sessions.
- Collaborate with global engineering, product, R&D, and commercial teams.
- Travel periodically throughout the U.S. to customer and project sites.
Ideal Background
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Approximately 3+ years of experience in water or wastewater treatment, ideally involving membrane or separation technologies.
- Experience with UF, NF, RO, MF, MBR, or other membrane processes strongly preferred.
- Experience evaluating water analyses and translating customer treatment requirements into practical process solutions.
- Comfortable working directly with customers in a technical-commercial environment.
- Experience with industrial water, wastewater reuse, drinking water, process water, or advanced treatment applications.
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage several technical opportunities and projects simultaneously.
- Willingness to travel throughout the United States as required.
