Role Summary
About the Organisation
Role Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed building automation and controls estimates for mission-critical and data centre projects
- Review drawings, specifications, sequences of operation, and bid documents to determine project scope and requirements
- Develop accurate material, labour, engineering, commissioning, and subcontractor cost estimates
- Prepare customer proposals, pricing summaries, qualifications, and scope narratives
- Participate in customer-facing meetings during budgeting, bidding, and proposal stages
- Collaborate with sales, operations, engineering, and project teams to develop competitive solutions
- Evaluate project risks, assumptions, and value engineering opportunities
- Solicit and analyse vendor and subcontractor quotations
- Support bid strategy development for negotiated and competitive pursuits
- Assist in project handoff activities to ensure continuity between preconstruction and execution teams
Required Experience and Skills
- Proven experience estimating Building Automation Systems (BAS) or Building Management Systems (BMS) projects
- Experience estimating controls projects specifically, rather than general MEP scopes
- Demonstrated experience supporting mission-critical facilities, with a strong preference for data centre projects
- Ability to interpret construction documents, controls drawings, specifications, and sequences of operation
- Experience building detailed cost estimates and technical proposals for complex automation projects
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project risk assessment
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Experience working directly with customers during the pursuit and proposal process
- Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and deadlines
- Strong organisational and analytical skills
Additional or Desirable Experience
- Senior Estimator, Lead Estimator, or Preconstruction experience
- Experience with large-scale hyperscale or colocation data centre projects
- Knowledge of commissioning, controls engineering, or BAS project delivery
- Exposure to negotiated work and strategic account development
- Experience developing conceptual budgets and design-assist estimates
- Familiarity with integrated systems and mission-critical infrastructure environments
- Preference for estimating experinece with Distech and Niagara systems
