Salary Range: $160,000 - $200,000+
Travel: Approximately 20-30%
Position Overview
We are seeking a Business Development Manager to drive growth across automation, instrumentation, controls, and SCADA services for municipal and industrial infrastructure clients throughout the Southwest and Western United States.
This position is responsible for developing client relationships, identifying new project opportunities, leading strategic pursuits, and partnering with engineering teams to deliver consulting and design solutions. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to utility and infrastructure clients while helping expand market presence and drive revenue growth.

Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Client Growth
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with municipal, utility, industrial, and infrastructure clients.
- Identify, qualify, and pursue new project opportunities related to automation, controls, instrumentation, and SCADA systems.
- Lead business development initiatives throughout Arizona and the Western United States.
- Develop account plans and growth strategies for key clients.
- Conduct client meetings, presentations, and industry networking activities.
- Support contract negotiations and project positioning efforts.
- Manage opportunity pipelines and track business development performance metrics.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, association meetings, and trade events.
Sales & Pursuit Leadership
- Lead proposal strategy, development, and submission activities.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary pursuit teams during project pursuits.
- Develop technical and commercial messaging tailored to client needs.
- Participate in interviews, presentations, and selection processes.
- Support strategic capture planning for major projects and programs.
- Assist with forecasting and business planning activities.
Technical Advisory Support
- Serve as a trusted advisor regarding automation, SCADA, instrumentation, and operational technology initiatives.
- Help clients evaluate modernization programs and long-term infrastructure investments.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to align technical solutions with client objectives.
- Support planning studies, assessments, and strategic infrastructure initiatives.
Client Relationship Management
- Develop long-term partnerships with utility leaders, operations managers, engineers, and executive stakeholders.
- Act as a liaison between clients and project delivery teams.
- Monitor client satisfaction and identify opportunities for additional services.
- Support successful project transitions from pursuit through execution.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in automation, controls, instrumentation, SCADA, engineering consulting, or infrastructure-related industries.
- Proven success in business development, client management, account growth, or technical sales.
- Experience developing and maintaining executive-level client relationships.
- Strong presentation, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience leading complex project pursuits and proposal efforts.
- Ability to travel throughout the region as needed.
Preferred
- Experience supporting water and wastewater utilities.
- Background in automation, SCADA, instrumentation, operational technology (OT), or industrial controls.
- Previous consulting engineering experience.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- Experience managing key accounts and strategic growth initiatives.
- Knowledge of capital infrastructure projects and utility operations.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $160,000 - $200,000+, depending on business development success, industry relationships, technical expertise, and leadership experience.
