About the Opportunity
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Project Development
- Direct engineering efforts for new power generation projects from feasibility and concept development through detailed design.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities across mechanical, electrical, civil, controls, process, and supporting disciplines.
- Lead technical decision-making to optimize project performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
Equipment Evaluation & Technical Oversight
- Manage the technical evaluation, selection, and specification of major plant equipment.
- Review supplier proposals and provide recommendations for critical systems, including turbines, generators, heat recovery equipment, and balance-of-plant assets.
- Ensure equipment selections align with project objectives and long-term operational requirements.
EPC Management & Design Review
- Serve as the primary engineering interface with EPC firms and major vendors.
- Review engineering deliverables and technical submittals to verify compliance with project specifications, codes, and industry standards.
- Resolve design issues and coordinate incorporation of owner comments throughout project execution.
Construction & Commissioning Support
- Provide technical guidance during construction, testing, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Identify engineering risks and support the development of mitigation strategies.
- Assist project teams in resolving technical challenges that could impact schedule, budget, or performance.
Team Development & Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team.
- Establish expectations for quality, accountability, safety, and technical excellence.
- Promote continuous improvement and knowledge-sharing across engineering functions.
Stakeholder Management
- Collaborate with project development, commercial, operations, and regulatory teams.
- Participate in technical negotiations, contract reviews, performance guarantee discussions, and risk assessments.
- Maintain effective relationships with equipment suppliers, consulting engineers, and external partners.
Process & Standards Improvement
- Develop and enhance engineering procedures, standards, and best practices.
- Support project proposals, technical due diligence efforts, technology assessments, and cost estimating activities.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and alternative plant configurations to improve competitiveness and performance.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety
- Ensure engineering activities meet applicable regulatory, environmental, and safety requirements.
- Support adherence to recognized industry standards and engineering best practices.
- Champion a strong culture of safety and risk management across all project phases.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience supporting power generation projects, including development, engineering design, and EPC project delivery.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing engineering teams and multidisciplinary project efforts.
- Strong background with thermal power generation facilities, including gas turbine and combined-cycle technologies.
- Experience overseeing EPC contractors, OEMs, and major equipment suppliers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
- Experience representing an owner, developer, or investor on large-scale power infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of behind-the-meter power solutions, data center power infrastructure, and distributed generation applications.
- Familiarity with performance guarantees, liquidated damages provisions, contract negotiations, and commercial risk management.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
